Discovering the surroundings

Venice

Only 113 km away. Universally considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it is listed, together with its lagoon, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The heart of the city is St Mark's Square, with its famous bell tower, the Basilica and the Doge's Palace. A visit to the islands of Marano and Burano is not to be missed.

The Grado lagoon and Marano by motorboat

The beautiful Marano Lagoon is home to two Regional Nature Reserves: the 'Foci del Fiume Stella' (mouths of the Stella River) and the 'Valle Canal Novo' (Canal Novo Valley), connected to Lignano Sabbiadoro by motorboat service. Here, visitors can admire a wealth of unspoilt flora and rich and colourful fauna. The guided tour of the casoni, the ancient dwellings of the lagoon fishermen, is a moving experience.

Trieste

Only 99 km away. The provincial capital of our region, it blends Mediterranean and Central European features that can be admired especially in the buildings with their severe lines and in the wide boulevards and squares, including Piazza Unità d'Italia, the largest square in Europe overlooking the sea. We recommend visiting the Molo Audace, the castle and San Giusto Cathedral, the Grand Canal, the Victory Lighthouse and the historic cafés.

The parco dello Stella and the Ariis Aquarium

Only 33 km away. Parco dello Stella is a municipal park characterised by forests, meadows, watercourses, irrigation ditches and springs, which can be visited via cycling and walking trails. It has lush flora and fauna rich in amphibians, fish and insects. The Aquarium of Ariis di Rivignano, on the other hand, is a freshwater museum housing fish species from the river ecosystem of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
